A Message From the President:

Dear Sisters, Brothers and Friends,

Welcome to our website. As President of NOWU, I want to thank you for your ongoing continuing support in strengthening our union.

In the aftermath of Covid 19 our staff continues to work tirelessly to eliminate the backlog that the pandemic caused. The many grievances and arbitrations that were backlogged have now, for the most part, been resolved or rebooked for litigation.

We remain committed to support our hospital workers that were terminated for refusing to take the vaccinations. NOWU believes in “informed consent” and “my body my choice.” In our lead case (Humber River Hospital) the parties have completed final submissions, and we now await the award from the Arbitrator.

When I first arrived at NOWU the Union had one unit with three members. Our track record coupled with word-of-mouth support from our existing members has resulted in many thousands of workers joining NOWU to date.

We quite often are called with inquiries from the so-called big unions that are frustrated with their service. This often results in successful organizing campaigns to upgrade to NOWU.

We are also getting calls from non-union working environments that have heard of us and want to join a progressive union. We have had three certifications this year alone of new workers joining the labour movement by signing up and voting in NOWU.

As President of NOWU I remain committed to lead a progressive Union that stands ready to fight for the needs of our members. That being said I would like to close this message by thanking our members for their continued support and our Stewards and Staff that work tirelessly on behalf of the membership.

In Solidarity
